Leadership means taking responsibility, making decisions and remaining capable of acting even under demanding circumstances. At the same time, leaders are themselves part of a complex environment shaped by expectations, objectives, interpersonal relationships and organisational demands.
In the pace of everyday business, there is often little opportunity to step back and reflect consciously on one's leadership role and personal approach. Decisions need to be made, conflicts addressed and challenges managed.A Sail & Soul leadership retreat offers an opportunity to step away from the usual professional environment and focus on personal and professional questions.
Psychologically grounded coaching is combined with the distinctive setting of a professionally operated sailing yacht.

Leadership begins with self-reflection

Leadership is never entirely independent of personality. Personal values, expectations, experiences and behavioural patterns influence how decisions are made, conflicts are handled and people are led.
Anyone seeking to develop their leadership skills should therefore look beyond external demands and take time to reflect on their own behaviour and approach.
Possible areas of focus include:

  • Personal leadership role and leadership philosophy
  • Decision-making and dealing with responsibility
  • Communication and conflict management
  • Managing expectations and performance pressure
  • Personal boundaries and stress patterns
  • Trust, delegation and collaboration
  • Personal values and professional objectives
  • Developing individual leadership resources

Why leadership coaching on a sailing yacht?

A sailing yacht provides an unusual environment for personal and professional reflection. The familiar workplace context recedes into the background. There are no ongoing meetings, no immediate involvement in operational business and fewer of the everyday interruptions that normally compete for attention.
At the same time, life on board has clear practical requirements. Decisions need to be made, activities coordinated and responsibilities taken seriously. Wind and weather demonstrate that not every situation can be controlled.
These experiences can offer interesting parallels to leadership challenges:How do I deal with uncertainty? When is a clear decision necessary? How much control is appropriate? How can I share responsibility while maintaining an overview?
Experiences on board are not regarded as a simplified model of a business environment, but as possible starting points for reflection and personal insight.

How is the leadership coaching structured?

The coaching is tailored to the individual concerns and objectives of each participant. Depending on the situation, it may include structured one-to-one conversations, shared reflection sessions and resource-oriented approaches.
The focus is on developing a more conscious approach to one's leadership role and the responsibilities that come with it.
Nicole Haubrock contributes her psychological expertise and professional background in cognitive behavioural therapy. She supports participants in exploring behavioural patterns, personal resources and individual development goals.
Mark Langer complements this approach with many years of experience as a ship's captain and in positions of nautical responsibility. His perspective on leadership, decision-making and teamwork under changing conditions adds a practical dimension to the exploration of leadership.

Who is this retreat suitable for?

Leadership coaching at sea is designed for people with professional responsibility who wish to take dedicated time for their personal and professional development.
This may include:

  • Managing directors and business owners
  • Middle and senior management professionals
  • Entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals
  • Project and team leaders
  • Individuals preparing for leadership positions

The programme can be arranged as an individual retreat or, where appropriate, as a retreat for a small group of leaders.

Gain clarity and lead with greater awareness

Leadership cannot be reduced to individual techniques or behavioural rules. It develops through the interaction of personality, experience, communication and the ability to provide direction under changing circumstances.
sail & soul combines psychologically grounded coaching with professional nautical leadership experience and the distinctive environment of life at sea.
Time on board creates distance from familiar routines and an opportunity to view one's leadership role from a different perspective.
