Team Building at Sea

Experience Collaboration in a New Way

Get in touch

Effective teamwork is built on more than clearly defined tasks and shared objectives. It develops through communication, trust, mutual respect and the ability to work constructively together, even when circumstances become challenging.
In everyday professional life, these aspects can easily take a back seat to deadlines, routines and operational demands. Team building on a sailing yacht offers an opportunity to step outside familiar working environments and experience collaboration from a different perspective.
sail & soul combines psychologically grounded coaching with shared experiences on the water. The focus is not on competition or simply completing nautical activities, but on consciously exploring communication, group dynamics and shared responsibility.

What makes working together on board different?

A sailing yacht is a shared space in which people live and work together. Tasks need to be coordinated, information communicated and decisions put into practice as a team.
These conditions make it possible to observe how people communicate, take responsibility and respond to different needs.
Life at sea also requires flexibility. Wind and weather can change plans, and situations cannot always be fully controlled or anticipated.Such experiences can provide valuable starting points for reflecting on collaboration in the professional environment.

Which topics can be explored?

Depending on the team's objectives, the programme can focus on a range of different areas:

  • Communication and the exchange of information
  • Trust and mutual support
  • Roles, tasks and responsibilities
  • Dealing with different personalities
  • Collaborative decision-making
  • Conflict management and constructive solutions
  • Working together under changing conditions
  • Recognising individual strengths and the abilities of others

The focus is not determined by a standard programme but is adapted to the team's individual needs and objectives.

How does team building at sea work?

Time on board combines practical shared experiences with psychologically grounded coaching and reflection sessions.
The team first experiences the particular conditions of life on a yacht. Depending on the situation, shared tasks, coordination and nautical activities may form part of the daily programme.
Selected experiences are then explored together: How were decisions made? How effective was communication? Which roles emerged? What supported collaboration, and where did difficulties arise?
By combining experience with reflection, participants can recognise patterns and connections that may also be relevant to their professional working environment.
Mark Langer takes responsibility for the yacht's navigation and operation, drawing on many years of maritime experience and professional command. Nicole Haubrock complements the programme with her psychological expertise and the structured design of the coaching sessions.

Which teams can benefit from this approach?

The programme is designed for companies, leadership teams and working groups that want to develop their collaboration more consciously.
It may be particularly valuable:

  • When bringing new teams together
  • Following organisational changes
  • When reflecting on existing team dynamics
  • When developing more effective communication structures
  • To strengthen trust and a sense of shared responsibility
  • As a dedicated development opportunity for an established team

Group size, duration and programme content are tailored to the individual project and the practical possibilities on board.

Shared experiences that last beyond the retreat

Effective team development does not end when everyone returns to shore. What matters is the insight participants gain and how they translate it into their everyday working relationships.
sail & soul provides a distinctive setting for this process. The combination of psychologically grounded coaching, professional nautical expertise and shared experiences at sea creates an opportunity to explore team dynamics beyond the familiar workplace.
